WhatsApp Business API Cost in India (2026)
Two parts make up the bill: what Meta charges per message and what your platform charges per month. Rates, worked examples and ways to lower the total.
The WhatsApp Business API has two cost parts: Meta's per-message charge and your provider's platform fee. In India, Meta charges ₹0.8631 per marketing message and ₹0.115 per utility or authentication message, and non-template replies inside a 24-hour customer service window are free. A platform such as wChatFlowAI adds a monthly plan from ₹299 (excluding 18% GST). Example: 10,000 marketing messages cost 10,000 × ₹0.8631 = ₹8,631 to Meta, plus ₹1,499 for the Growth plan, about ₹10,130 before GST.
The two parts of the cost
- Meta's per-message charge. Since July 1, 2025 Meta bills per message, not per conversation. The rate depends on the template category and the country of the recipient.
- Your platform fee. This pays for the dashboard, shared inbox, bulk sender, chatbot and automation tools, and the API connection. It is a monthly plan or a per-message fee, depending on the model.
Meta's per-message rates in INR by category
Rates below are from Meta's India (INR) rate card, last checked 9 October 2026. Meta updates its rate card from time to time, so confirm the current figures on Meta's rate card before you budget.
| Message category | Rate per message (INR) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | ₹0.8631 | Offers, promotions, abandoned-cart reminders |
| Utility | ₹0.115 | Order updates, payment receipts, appointment reminders |
| Authentication | ₹0.115 | OTPs and account verification |
| Service | Free | Non-template replies inside an open 24-hour customer service window |
Also free: utility templates sent inside an open customer service window, and all messages during the 72-hour free entry point window that opens when someone contacts you from a Click to WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page button. Utility and authentication rates can drop at high monthly volumes through Meta's volume tiers. Authentication messages to international numbers use a separate rate.
Platform fees: what providers charge
A provider charges a monthly subscription, a per-message fee, or both. wChatFlowAI's BYO plans are monthly and exclude 18% GST. With BYO, Meta bills you directly for messages, so there is no per-message markup from us. With Managed Wallet, each message is paid for from a prepaid wallet; see wChatFlowAI pricing for the current rates.
| Plan | Monthly fee (excl. GST) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | ₹299 | Bulk messaging, 1 user |
| Starter | ₹649 | Growing businesses, 5 automation flows, 2 users |
| Growth | ₹1,499 | Scaling teams, unlimited automation, AI bot, 5 users |
| Business | ₹3,999 | Agencies and enterprises, white label, unlimited users |
Worked examples: 1,000, 10,000 and 50,000 messages
The arithmetic is always messages × rate + platform fee. These examples assume every message is a marketing template, which is the most expensive case, and show amounts before GST.
| Messages (marketing) | Meta charge (messages × ₹0.8631) | Platform fee | Total before GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1,000 × ₹0.8631 = ₹863.10 | Lite ₹299 | ₹1,162.10 |
| 10,000 | 10,000 × ₹0.8631 = ₹8,631 | Growth ₹1,499 | ₹10,130 |
| 50,000 | 50,000 × ₹0.8631 = ₹43,155 | Business ₹3,999 | ₹47,154 |
If the same 10,000 messages were utility templates, the Meta charge would be 10,000 × ₹0.115 = ₹1,150. The category is set by what the message is for, not by what is cheapest, so only genuine transactional messages belong in utility.
Hidden costs to check
- Setup fee: ask whether the provider charges one. wChatFlowAI does not.
- Markup: ask whether the provider adds a charge on top of Meta's per-message rate, and how it is shown on your invoice.
- GST: platform fees are usually quoted before 18% GST, so add it to your budget.
- Template fees: Meta charges per template message, not for creating or approving a template.
- AI replies: if you use an AI bot, replies may be billed separately from the plan.
How to lower your WhatsApp API bill
- Use utility templates for genuine transactional messages. The rate is ₹0.115 against ₹0.8631 for marketing. Never re-label a promotion as utility; it breaks Meta's template rules.
- Invite replies. Non-template messages inside the 24-hour window are free.
- Use Click to WhatsApp ads. The conversations they start get a 72-hour free entry point window.
- Segment your list and send only to people likely to engage, rather than your whole database.
- Do not resend to contacts whose message failed with error 131049; wait at least 24 hours.
